NIS - LDAP Migration

Hi experts,

I am trying to setup an LDAP server for a small network. The purpose is only to manage around 50 users & password and name resolution for limited number of hosts( near about 100 hosts).

My nis server is ready and working. How do I migrate to LDAP now to server the above mentioned purposes. If any one can help me by giving a complete procedure for this, it will be really great.

Waiting to hear from you all.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Syam

Re: NIS - LDAP Migration

See if you can connect to your directory server using one of the provided ldap tools: ldapsearch

ldapsearch -h -p -b "" -s base "(objectclass=top)"

Re: NIS - LDAP Migration

Hello Syam and all LDAP experts,

I'm in a similar situation trying to migrate my NIS data to a newly installed Netscape LDAP server. I am inexperienced when it comes to LDAP. So I just installed the software, not knowing what to do to enable it. I then installed the LDAP-UX software and I am trying to execute the migration script "migrate_all_nis_online.sh". It creates a "/tmp/nis.3787.ldif" but when it tries to import it into LDAP I get this error:

Importing into LDAP...
ldap_simple_bind: Can't connect to the LDAP server - Connection refused
/opt/ldapux/bin/ldapmodify -a -c: returned error 91
Your new ldif database file exists in: /tmp/nis.3787.ldif

This looks like the error Syam got. It seems to be related to the LDAP server. I don't have the slapd daemon running. Do I need this? How do I start it? Does LDAP server need to be configured somewhat before I run LDAP-UX migration?

Any input will help. Thanks!

Rikk

Re: NIS - LDAP Migration

Syam, Is your LDAP server runing and accepting client connections ? Please make sure it runs.
Are you using OpenLDAP or Netscape directory server ?
