NIS Master/Slave

What is the easiest way to find out if a server is a NIS master and/or slave?

Also what files are involved in the config?

Thanks

Re: NIS Master/Slave

Hi Mike:

ypwhich will instantly identify the domain master.

You can also check /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs for other NIS setup parameters.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: NIS Master/Slave

Hi

'ypwhich' is the command to check master or slave.
Configuration file is /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs
file. look for the flag 1 and 0

Re: NIS Master/Slave

Hi,

ypwhich will report the NIS server it is binding to (Slave/Master) but ypwhich -m will indicate the master for the maps

Re: NIS Master/Slave

Hi again Mike:

I suppose I should also mention ypcat ypservers to list the servers.

Re: NIS Master/Slave

Hi (again) Mike,

I think clay meant "ypcat -k ypservers"

Re: NIS Master/Slave

Hi Mike,

#ypwhich -m (who is the master of this server)
#ypwhich (where are you binding. means from where you are getting your information)
#ypcat -k ypserver (list of all server including master)

Re: NIS Master/Slave

Where would I type in "ypwhich" to know if my CD ROM was a master or slave to the Secondary IDE Controller?

Re: NIS Master/Slave

William,

You are WAY WAY confused here. The 'yp*' commands, including ypwhich, have nothing at all to do with hardware.

If I understand what you want, you are working on a PC and the easiest thing to do will be to take off the cover and have a look at it.
