NIS+ Setup on root server and subdomain
I'm new to this so please bear with me. I'm trying to set up NIS+ services on HPUX 11.00 HP9000 LClass server and am have problems with getting a subdomain client up and running and well as what the proper sets are for adding groups and users are.
No NIS or NIs+ services have been setup before.
I've been following the setup using the HP Instant info docs on NIS+ Config and admin.
What I am trying to accomplish is have the same user id's and group ids used across the network & subdomains for users & user group. Each subdomain will has its own server and local root administrator. The current situation is that both the root server (R1) and the to-be subdomain server (D1) have created the same local user & group accounts in isolation.
I've set up the root master server with no problems however I'm questioning some of the setup sets as I discovered problems when we tried to get a subdomain master server setup.
For the initial R1 population of NIS+ tables, I removed the all but real user accounts in passwd, aliases & hosts files. Should this be done for groups (other than user groups) , netgroups, auto_master, rpc, ....etc...?
One problem that I noticed in trying to get the subdomain up (D1) iwa sthat the auto_master entry for /net was not valid on D1 as it was inherited from R1. Another problem I'm having is that root on D1 cannot update the nis+ tables on D1 - get access denied.
What is the proper way to setup D1 for clients & users?
Do I now need to:
- Delete local user accounts & groups on both R1 & D1
- recreate user local accounts & groups on D1 for their home dirs and as D1 root do a chown/chgrp on any existing user files. (No home for subdomain users accounts will be on R1)
- how to I set up root on D1 to allow update privledges for nis+ tables (or do I?)
- As all users & groups need to have the same UID & GIDs do they need to be created on R1 as nis+users & groups or on D1 as nis+users & groups?
As you can tell I'm new to this. Any help greatly apprieciated
