ypinit-s master_server
I am getting errors when the slave server tries to copy some of the files:
Transferring ethers.byaddr for domain domain_name from master_server
ypxfr: can't get order number for map ethers.byaddr from ypserv
reason: no such map in server's NIS domain
Really there is no ethers.byaddr in /var/yp/domain_name on the master server but where is the problem?
The same is happening for:
ethers.byname, netmasks.byaddr, and bootparams.
Every other map file is copied okay.
Both machines are on HP-UX 11.00...
Would be grateful for any idea...
Thanks

Re: NIS Slave Server Setup
This document will help you to setup a master. slave and client:
http://us-support3.external.hp.com/cki/bin/doc.pl/sid=c77da8ee17c62a6d9e/screen=ckiDisplayDocument?docId=200000048368333
This is normal if you do not have those maps. The default make push all maps. If your aren't using all the maps, you will get an error when it tries to push it

SolutionThat is ok. That means you are not using that maps. If you do not want that map to pull or poll you have to change your Makefile in /var/yp and remove reference to that maps.
I will suggest leave it as it is.

Re: NIS Slave Server Setup
Do not worry about those errors.
Actually NIS is a product from SUN microsystems and hence some ofthe files you can see like ethers and bootparams are provided for SUN interoperatibility. HP-UX is not using these files for NIS.
Continue with the procedure and set up your slave server.
