NLB with NIC's in HP-UX

Hi everyone,

I want to implement a NLB for my UX Servers.

I need to know, if I should buy a new software to implement NLB (Network Load Balance), with two NIC (Network Interface Cards) in my HPUX server ? or is included with the OS (I'm using HPUX 11.0)?.

If a new software is needed, where I can buy it and his name ?

With this new software (if is needed), I can have FT (fault tolerance) feature with this two NIC's ?

Thanks!

Re: NLB with NIC's in HP-UX

Hi,

You need to look into an add-on HP product called 'Auto Port Aggregation'. It basically turns up to 4 NIC's into 1 MAC address. It also
gives you redundancy. Contact your HP rep for details. If you really want super failover (e.g. loss of server) then you should also look in MC/ServiceGuard.

Hi again,

I suppose I should give you the product number:
J4240AA. This last time I purchased it the retail was $1120.

Re: NLB with NIC's in HP-UX

assuming that you want to load balance traffic being sent from that one node, then the suggestion to go with APA is the correct one.

if instead you meant some sort of load balancer as in balancing web server load among machines "behind" the two NIC system, HP-UX itself does not come with such sortfware (iirc) though various vendors have various solutions, including but not limited to Resonate and Zeus.
