Hi all,
I'm trying to boot from a recovery tape but boot sequence seems to stop without any reason:

Re: no booting from recovery tape

Where exactly is your problem ??

ISL booting hpux (;0):INSTALL

is exactly what is to be expected when booting from an ignite tape with no IPL interaction

Re: no booting from recovery tape

I see that once again Ignite has a new version which i missed while jetting around.

Here is how I boot off the Ignite tape. it differs from the way you do it.

From the prompt after stopping the boot at the 10 second prompt

sea

The tape drive should be the only sequential device.

Lets say its P3

BO P3

N (do not interact)

Now it should boot off the tape.

Perhaps try this and report back.

Hi,

does it last too long?

If yes,
which hardware?
Check if you have the latest firmware patch!

Re: no booting from recovery tape

hi,

The SEA shows only a tape drive, I hope you cut off the hard disks while posting the question.

Are you restoring the image to a similar server?

Thierry.

Re: no booting from recovery tape

Steven, my I did what you told me but I got same problem:

Main Menu: Enter command or menu > sea

Searching for potential boot device(s)
This may take several minutes.

To discontinue search, press any key (termination may not be immediate).

Re: no booting from recovery tape

Thierry, sea showed only a tape drive because I used "sea ipl" and so it showed only media with a valid IPL on it.
I tried also using sea only but I got same problem.
My hardware is an A400 server.
I upgraded PDC firmware last week.

Re: no booting from recovery tape

Hi Mauro,

There are 2 possibilities.

1) You have some FC card for which ignite does not have a driver. If so, remove those FC cards and try booting.

Ideally remove any additional IO cards and try the recovery.

2) Your terminal display variable is improper. You may have to set it to the proper value. Let us know what type of terminal you are using.

With regards,
Mohan.

Re: no booting from recovery tape

Check that your tape drive is properly connected.

Make sure it has power. this may be as simple as a scsi card or cable going.

If you don't see a sequential device on sea then this boot process will fail.

ioscan -fnC tape

There needs to be a tape drive present.
