no inbound networking RP3440 11.31 - firewall??
Fresh load of 11.31 (Sep2007 twice, now Mar2008). System worked fine with 11.23. System using igelan driver with onboard network port. Building uses VLANs but problem independent from that. Verified correct IP, GW, netmask (see below).
I cannot ping the system OS from anywhere, but the mgmt console functions. However if I use the console, all outbound networking works, DNS, NIS (yp bound), traceroute, linkloop. I've swapped the network cables and port connections between NetMgmt and on-board, no change. Cisco switch looks good. I'm baffled - even when I use console to connect to OS, and telnet out to my Solaris desktop, while connected the Solaris system cannot ping the IP of the HPUX 11.31 system. Doesn't matter what OS or VLAN the other system is, all outbound works, but no inbound connections much like everything is firewalled off in 11.31 but I've loaded 11.31 a dozen times before without problems.
Thanks in advance.

Re: no inbound networking RP3440 11.31 - firewall??
Update... as I finished the initial thread, firwall came to mind and I found thread 1144619.
disabled the ipfilter:
/opt/ipf/bin/ipfilter -d
I could ping and ssh, but telnet failed.
Uncommented lines for telnet, login, exec in /etc/inetd.conf and did a kill -HUP onthe inetd PID and all is well that I know of. Thanks for reading.
