No tape device files created

We have two N-class servers and they both fibre connected to a Brocade Silkworm 2800 switch with a STK 700. On one of the servers,
when we do a ioscan, the device files are not listed and they are not in /dev/rmt. These
servers are almost identical in hardware and
software. All the drivers(schger and stape) are loaded and we still don't see the device
files. Are we missing something? Any help will be appreciated.

Re: No tape device files created

Hi Sonny,

Do a "insf -e" to recreate the device files. Do a "ioscan -fnk" to chec kif the tape device is seen by the system.

The ioscan command should return the tape device seen as claimed and will show the device path associated with the device. If the problem persist, can you attach your ioscan output.

Hope this helps.

Re: No tape device files created

Hi Sonny
Do you see the hardware when you run ioscan?

#insf -e will create the special device file if you have added hardware on fly and if you can see the hardware after running ioscan.

Re: No tape device files created

Hi Sonny

There is a particular sequence in which the devices have to be powered on after they are installed and zoned correctly , all the commands like insf and ioscan will work only if the devices are getting sensed hardware wise.

Re: No tape device files created

Hi

First, please the "insf -e" commands execute. insf will create device files for new devices. It will also update /etc/ioconfig and the kernel tree. and "-e" options create/reinstalls device files for existing devices
Second, please the "ioscan -funC tape" commands execute. then list all tape drives and device files
