nohup - joby exits at logout
Hi all,
I want to take glance report on bydsk_phys_write_byte_rate_cum. This report I need it for 24 hours. I am using X terminal window for the same.
The Adiviser Syntex has been modified and checked for working condition. It generates the report. I want to take the report for 6 servers. So I want to run the job in bg. The following things have been tried.
1. nohup gpm>diskreport &
2. nohup gpm>diskreport 2>&1 &
3. sh then nohup gpm>diskreport &
All the above commands works fine till I close the X window.
This command opens glance graphical window , and the report goes to diskreport file.
I am getting following mesg while logout, "Your current session will be restored upon login, Application updates u have not saved will be lost. Continue logout?." I say yes. and logout.
WhenI logging in to server, I could able to see the glance graphical window is running, but the outputfile(diskreport) is not appending. The last mesg in that file is X-connection to 172.x.x.x is broken. (Explicit kill or server shutdown). After that no report is added to this file.
I appricate your earliest reply on this. I need to take the report today.
Thanks in advance.
Sundar

Re: nohup - joby exits at logout
My only suggestion is that you not run these three scripts in the same directory.
nohup creates an output file called nohup.out in the directory the command is run in.
If you try and run two nohups in the same directory two processes can try and write to the same output file at the same time. This can lead to unexpected results.

Re: nohup - joby exits at logout
Dear Steve,
I am not running all these three scripts simultaneously. All theses three types are tried one by one. All are giving same error.
But, however.. After going thro the details in forums, I colud able to generate the report thro glance command. The syntax I used was
#nohup glance -adviser_only -syntax ./nsj.syntax -j 30 >diskreport &
This generates the report required by me and solves the jobs running on bg.
Thanks for your reply.
Regards
Sundar
