Non standard device files

I'm trying to set up a local printer on one of my HP9000's (HP-UX11), the problem is it must work through a terminal server (Annex) I'm presuming this should be done via a non standard device file but am unsure of how to create this device file.

Re: Non standard device files

hi ,
non standard DF is for the printers , u r connecting to the serial line.not for the printers u r connecting on the parallel port of terminal.
if u wants to configure printer as a serial , than configure it by giving it a fix tty no.

Re: Non standard device files

My knowledge of Annex terminal servers is fading, but I'll try to explain. If the printer is connected to the Annex parallel printer port, then you should be able to use a remote printer in HPUX. If the printer is connected to one of the serial terminal ports, then you must first configure that port for printing and create a local printer in HPUX using the Annex TCP print stream utility, aprint. I think the stream is to port 20xx where xx is the port number from 01 to 64.

Did you ever get the micro annex working? I can probably help you with terminal setup, and maybe even printer setup. The problem I currently have is, what settings to use in the /etc/ddfa/dp file. I primarily use Datability termservers. I have them finally working perfectly, but I can not seem to get any printed output.

Re: Non standard device files

Hi,

The procedure to configure a printer trough a terminal server should be there with the terminal server documentation. Look at the terminal server documenation. If this is a fixed port for login on terminal server, configure the printer as a serial printer connected to the system and use the device file that is generated for the terminal server port on which you are trying to connect this printer.

Hope this helps.
