not a valid vxfs format

not a valid vxfs format

i have hpux 11 on b1000.
/home is not mounted, the message is
"not a valid vxfs format".
i try with dd to make image, make new /home
and write back with dd
the message is the same "not a valid vxfs format".
have i lost the data or is a way to save it?

hi,

see the entry in /etc/fstab.

try mounting mannualy
mount -F vxfs /dev/vg00/lvolx /home

give fstyp /dev/vgxx/lvolx

and make sure it is vxfs

See whether you are reffering to correct LV. Confirm whether the /home filesystem is using the same LV which you trying to mount on /home directory.
See /etc/fstab file properly and FStype field in the same
You need to know a lot to actually know how little you know

I think there is a file called /etc/fefaults/fs ??, If there is an entry to say it is Vxfs and he tryies to mount the fs , where it is HFS

I think you should find out what type of filesystem it by fstyp and mount -F hfs / vxfs .

If the filesystem was corrupted/destroyed, you may need to newfs home, then restore from the backup.

# newfs -F [hfs or vxfs] /dev/vg00/rlvolx
# mount /home
