Not able install Toshiba E3511 copier on HP-UX B.11.11

Hi,
We have bought a new Toshiba E3511 printer. We have set up to print on windows. Now I want to setup to print thru HP-UX.

I tried seting up as "Network" printer & also as "Remote" Printer. I am getting this error. But I am able to ping to this IP.

/opt/hpnpl/bin/hppi (Option 1 -> 1)

!! No response from 149.35.72.222 !!
... (trying to ping 149.35.72.222)
The HP JetDirect Printer Installer for Unix can ping the device.
The problem may be:
* incorrect GET community name!
* it is not a network printer!
* other.
Any help?

If setup as remote printer, then I get this error
$lpstat sal_t3511

printer queue for sal_t3511

orchid: sal_t3511: ready and waiting
no entries

Hi Niranjan,

You can still ignore the error, while configuring the network printer. Select the option 57 for the printer model and try printing to that.

Hi,
I am able set up the print Queue as a "REMOTE" printer.
But still I am not able to print.

There are no jobs in the print queue. That means que is cleared. But the printer is not responding.

As set up as remote printer you had a choice to select print driver, you should set up as either a generic ASCII printer or PostScript compatible printer, or as dummy. These are the drivers that HPUX use to print to the printer.. Visiting the website for Toshiba E3511 it does not mention that it is PCL, Postscript compatible and may be a proprietary driver.

Use SAM to install the printer as a remote device and you will have to look up the documentation on how to connect to Unix system.

Host server: enter the IP address
port name: either RAW, Passthru, what ever the printer manual says is the printer port.

This creates a passthru port and the application on HPUx will print to it. The application may have their own drivers and you will have to research on how to print.

Windows has made it very easy for printer, scanners to work. But the manufacturors do not write drivers for any other Operating Systems, HPUx, Solaris, IBM AIX etc.. That is one reason that using HP printers on a HPUX system works well. As well as IBM printers on IBM.

Just to tell you We use Minolta copiers on a Sun Solaris running SAP. The SAP driver we use is a HP 4Plus driver that the Minolta and Canon Copiers will emulate. Also we use the same copiers from a OPENVMS Alpha system using ASCII with escape codes that emulate the HP 4Plus.

Thanks for the response.

(The problem was, I was using Jetdirect installer to create the que)
I used est4511add provided by Toshiba to add the print-que. (Copied HPUX.tar file to Unix directory to get ext4511add file)

Now I am able to set up the print que and also print.

you need to have the toshiba driver.
you can find it on their web site.
I have installed a es4511 multifonction on my hp ux box 11i v1 and I have use that driver. You can not manage it by hppi.

Hi,
Again I am facing problem. It is printing only the banner page and not the data. No error is displayed on the printer.

I have created the print-queue using:

/opt/toshiba/tap/bin/est4511add

provided by the toshiba-supplier.



Have you faced similar problem??
