Not able to configure network card

I have L3000-5x Hp server and while trying to configure Ip address to lan0 interface I am getting below error.

Error:

ifconfig: ioctl (SIOCSIFNETMASK): bad value

Please suggest

Note:This interface is used to take backups and earlier this interface was working fine.

Re: Not able to configure network card

"bad value" sounds like a bad value - double check this!

Hope this helps!

Re: Not able to configure network card

Sounds to me as if you passed the ifconfig command an invalid netmask.
What did your command or script line look like?

Re: Not able to configure network card

hi,

try to review the current configuration using SAM:

SAM Areas:Networking and Communications -> Network Interface Cards

Re: Not able to configure network card

In this server the same Ip was setup with same subnet mask 3 days back and was working.

After the server reboot the problem started all of a sudden.

I tried configuring thru SAM,ifconfig command and also thru netconf.

Re: Not able to configure network card

It might be the reboot you mentioned which is messing up things.
HP-UX does a check on illegal subnetmasks probably causing your error.
It's most likely that someone turned off that check in the past but after the reboot it's on again.

Turn it off temporary :
# ndd -set /dev/ip ip_check_subnet_addr 0

To make it permanent, edit
/etc/rc.config.d/nddconf :
TRANSPORT_NAME[0]=ip
NDD_NAME[0]=ip_check_subnet_addr
NDD_VALUE[0]=0
