Not able to login to HP-UX (11.11) PA-RISC

When I tried to login through console of a HP-UX (PA-RISC) running 11.11 OS, I am seeing the following prompts but I am not able to login to the system:

GenericSysName [HP Release B.11.11] (see /etc/issue)
Console Login: prabhut
Password:
Login incorrect

Wait for login retry: ..
login:

Note: I am using NIS service for login. I tried to login as root user also, it didn't work.

Any help on this?.

Hi,
assuming this setup was previously working, has anything changed (going to trusted system or password change ?)
Is your NIS server running and the network ok ?
What was the message when you tried to log in as root on the console?

Shalom,

Simply put the system is telling you that it is not accepting your password.

The system is not working with NIS.

You need to log onto the system as root and fix the network or NIS problem.

/etc/rc.config.d/namesvr

Thats the first configuration file I'd look at.

To answer Gordon's questions:
1. My NIS server is up and running
2. To my knowledge nothing was altered in this server.
3. Even when I tried to login in Console, I am getting the same error message (as shown in my initial question).

I am not able to login using root account also.

hence the system is unusable.

If you can not get onto the system at all, and nothing has changed and the network is ok, I would have to suggest you reboot to single user mode for further investigation, like SEP's suggestion.
