Not able to rest the password

[HP UNIX Professionals]

Hi Experts,

In HPUX(B.10.20 A 9000) ,When i try to lckpwdf: Interrupted system call
Cannot obtain lock for /etc/.pwd.lock
sndb4:/#useing passwd command i am getting Erorr, i am not able to reset the password.

"lckpwdf: Interrupted system call
Cannot obtain lock for /etc/.pwd.lock
XXXX:/#

Please guid me

1. why this error comming
2. What is the solution

Hi Vinay:

The '/etc/.pwd.lock' file may be missing. If so, recreate it as the root user with:

# touch /etc.pwd.lock
# chmod 400 /etc/.pwd.lock

If you can not obtain the lock, then obviously someone or some process already has it.
Figure out who and either have them stop or kill the process.

/etc/.pwd.lock is missing in this case . you have to create the file manually and than try

Please verify that the pwd.lock file is in place. If not then you will need to create the file with the touch command and make sure the permission are correct. If the file is missing then you need to investigate why the file was removed.

Also besides the good advice above, consider moving the functionality of this system to supported hardware and software.

The age and lack of OS support is eventually going to cause a problem that can't be solved.
