Notification for ignite backups needed
Morning all,
We're an HP shop with ~35 HP servers. There's a pre-existing script in place that emails notification of the need to create make_tape_recovery on systems. This is currently based on the following having newer timestamps that the last mtr tape:
1. vmunix
2. lvmconf
3. patches/software
4. If 3 months have passed since the last mtr tape was created.
Due to the number of internal subnets and strict security policies, network archiving is not possible at this time.
I want to see if anyone has something in place that performs a similar function...hopefully a bit cleaner as we're notified far too often.
Thanks in advance,
Eric

Re: Notification for ignite backups needed
We have 24 systems, all with local tape drives and create mtr tapes weekly.
This way we don't have to worry about what changed when and do we or don't we need to create a new mtr tape.

Eric,
Have you looked into Ignite's built-in "check_recovery" function? Take a look at the man page.

Re: Notification for ignite backups needed
Unfortunately, we only have dlt's on 1/3 of the systems.
Pete, thanks for the check_tape_recovery command. Looks like it has some promise. I'll keep this open a bit longer and see what else turns up.

Thanks again,
