nslookup and traceroute and hpux (oh my)
We have similar systems on different subnets within our network. Configurations (other than host specific) are identical. nsswitch, db.cache, etc are all as I would expect, yet doing an nslookup to an Internet site doesnt work on some hosts. Ideas?

Re: nslookup and traceroute and hpux (oh my)
Hi Dave,
My best guess (and it's only that) is that you have a very slightly wrong (off by 1 bit) subnet mask. It would then work for some sites and not for others.
My 2 cents, Clay

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: nslookup and traceroute and hpux (oh my)
"doesn't work"? Does that mean that the hostname or the IP address report back not found? Or is there an error trying to resolve the DNS server's hostname? It would help to have a sample failure. nslookup allows you to specify a hostname or an IP address folowed by a specific DNS server. You might try different nameservers using nslookup.

Would you believe that some systems were not configured to go out through our firewall.
