Re: nsrmm: RPC error, Unknown host

Shalom,

RPC error of this type may have a cause as simple as the hostname the RPC is trying to call/connect to is not on the network.

This could be due to a temporary DNS failure or someone shut down an NFS server, lots of possible causes.

The last error message you got is kind of funny because you issued a shutdown for nsrd and now you have a message concerning if its up. Doh.

Other things that say hostname resolution to me.

all the hosts file are coming as -a -a instead of the hostname in hosts file under

-a:root [/etc/net] ll
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 2 bin bin 96 Oct 25 14:08 ticlts
drwxr-xr-x 2 bin bin 96 Oct 25 14:08 ticots
drwxr-xr-x 2 bin bin 96 Oct 25 14:08 ticotsord

e.g:-

root [/etc/net/ticotsord] cat hosts
# /etc/net/ticotsord/hosts
# This file contains lines of the form
#
# arbitrary_string hostname
#
# To keep things simple, the arbitrary_string should be the hostname.
-a -a

here is what i see in syslog

Oct 25 14:07:40 acaftp1p rpcbind: terminate: rpcbind terminating on signal. Restart with "rpcbind -w"
Oct 25 14:08:01 acaftp1p rpcbind: check_netconfig: Found CLTS loopback transport

Oct 25 14:08:01 acaftp1p rpcbind: init_transport: check binding for ticotsord
Oct 25 14:08:01 acaftp1p rpcbind: init_transport: check binding for ticots

any idea what would cause this.

Re: nsrmm: RPC error, Unknown host

my problem sounds like hostname returns a wrong value.

-a:root [/root] hostname
-a
-a:root [/root] uname -n
acaftp1p

i ran the set_parms (set the same name which it was returing; it was returing the right hostname; so just entered)

acaftp1p:root [/sbin/init.d] nsrmm -m -f /dev/rmt/0mn
dlt tape acaftp1p:Oct232007:0 mounted on /dev/rmt/0mn, write enabled
