What is the output of "xntpd start" and "ntpq -p"

Re: NTP issue
>># ntpdate IP_sysclock
11 Jun 11:55:03 ntpdate[9566]: no server suitable for synchronization found
cause 1:
This message indicates that the NTP server is not responding for some reason. Packets were sent out, but no reply was returned. Perhaps the server is down, or the network link is broken or extremely congested. Or perhaps the NTP daemon died on the server and has not yet locked on to its time sources
cause 2:I think you run the above command from NTP client system.
For NTP SERVER machine, after you start /sbin/init.d/xntpd start , you have to wait 5-15 minutes because NTP version 3.5 and above take between 5 and 15 minutes after starting up the daemon to synchronize, and it will not respond to client requests during this time.
After 5-15 minutes, run the following commands:
#ntpdate -d -b IP_ADDR_NTP_SERVER
Thanks

Re: NTP issue
Did you check you syslog.log file?
Cross check once that xntpd demon is running with "ps -aef| grep xntpd"

Re: NTP issue
So check
#ps -ef|grep ntp
if running dtop ntp :
#/sbin/init.d/xntpd stop
#ntpdate -d -b IP_sysclock
Thanks

Re: NTP issue
Is your NTP server connected to other clients if yes then loggin into any clients and give ntpq -p see the status.
From client and server both end check this are you able to ping.
