NTP sync issue!!!
Hi Team,
I have a customer with NTP server running on HPUX11.31 and we have 3 servers running HPUX 11.31 as NTP clients. Now customer is running Oracle (RAC 11.2.03)cluster verification script and the script is reporting NTP sync issue’s below is the error message and attached is the oracle script output.
NTP common Time Server Check started...
PRVF-5410 : Check of common NTP Time Server failed
PRVF-5416 : Query of NTP daemon failed on all nodes
Result: Clock synchronization check using Network Time Protocol(NTP) failed
It’s a very basic NTP configuration when I check the ntpq –p output, I don’t find any issues. But I have no idea why oracle script is reporting NTP sync errors ,your support is required to help me resolve this issue.
NTP server:
frspdb3 #ntpq -p
remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset disp
==============================================================================
*LOCAL(1) LOCAL(1) 10 l 11 64 377 0.00 0.000 10.01
NTP Client:
frspdb4 #ntpq -p
remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset disp
==============================================================================
*frspdb3.moe.loc LOCAL(1) 11 u 21 512 377 0.31 0.102 0.05
frstdb3 #ntpq -p
remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset disp
==============================================================================
*frspdb3.moe.loc LOCAL(1) 11 u 675 1024 377 0.70 -0.003 0.02
frstdb4 #ntpq -p
remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset disp
==============================================================================
*frspdb3.moe.loc LOCAL(1) 11 u 50 64 377 0.64 0.038 0.02

Re: NTP sync issue!!!
ntpq -p looks normal, so I would assume that the Oracle script is defective. Since it is a script, just search for ntp in the script. Most likely the script was not tested on HP-UX. If you find the code, post it and we can take a look at what it is trying to do. The error messages are not useful.

Re: NTP sync issue!!!
Customer DBA doesn’t know which command oracle script is using to check the ntp synchronization. Now the customer is insisting that our NTP server and client synchronization isn’t working properly.
For testing, customer is changing the NTP client time manually by using DATE command and after sometime I can see in syslog that NTP client is sending synchronization request and getting synchronized but in reality the time on Client stays behind.
And I can the below error messages in the syslog file.
