Omniback cleaning automation
How could I enable again automatic cleaning on my Omniback II DLT library? The dirty drive option is enable on my three DLT drives, the DLT library has a cleaning slot configured but the cleaning.log file hasn't been accessed since October 2000 (probably the time when the last sysadm disabled it). BTW, I'm running v. A.03.00. Thanks for your help.

Re: Omniback cleaning automation
Hi Javier:
The coreect answer is it depends. You failed to mention your library model. On my StorageTek libraries I actually turn off the drive cleaning in OB2 but enable it on the front panel of the library. The library then takes care of it automatically as long as there is a cartridge that has a 'CLN' prefixed label and it is in slot 1. In this case the number of library slots visible to the server decreases by one and no entries are made in the cleaning logs but cleaning does occur. It is possible to query the library for cleaning activity. My HP library, on the other hand, does require that the Drive Clean be enabled in OB2 and logs its activity. Again, the answer is: it depends. Tell us what kind of library you are using and I'll bet that someone on the forum can help.
Depending on the type of library you have, it may already be taking care of the cleaning without direct intervention by OB2.
Clay
