On-Line Diags, STM

Does networking need to be in place in order to run STM?

Re: On-Line Diags, STM

Yes. The communication is network based. Network and diagmond must be running.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

No, you may use the character-based STM tool known as cstm. It works fine, it does take some time to learn familiarity. The x-based tool xstm is much more intuitive, but does require networking to be up and running.

Re: On-Line Diags, STM

Chris, cstm, mstm and xstm are just different interfaces to diagmond.
Without a running diagmond you have just an interface, but no functionality.

Re: On-Line Diags, STM

Thorsten:
You are correct, that diagmond has to be running. But that was not the question. The question was whether or not networking was running. Cstm runs fine in single-user mode without the network interfaces up and running. It wouldn't be of much value as a tool if it did not work in maintenance mode.

Without the network up, it cannot interface to the diagmond daemons running on other systems. But if diagmond is started manually, then cstm works fine without the network up.

Re: On-Line Diags, STM

I found that the networking does not need to be in place, just a valid hostname and ip.
Thanks for all the resonponses
