OnlineDiag gives error about "Please be sure that you have enabled SMART for this"

Hi all,

I get this kind of error in api.log file:

-------------------Start Event--------------------

Hi,

What type of disk is this?? 10/0/15/1.6.0??

Execute the diskinfo -v command for the device file for this disk and post the info.

You can find the device file by

ioscan -fnC disk |grep t6d0

hi,

guess u r on the latest diagnostics tools.

by default, it should be monitoring all disks, u may like to check this:

# /etc/opt/resmon/lbin/monconfig
select C to check detailed monitoring status. what r those events that are being monitor for disks/default/10_0_15_1.6.0?

regards.

Re: OnlineDiag gives error about "Please be sure that you have enabled SMART for this"

Hi guys, thanks for helping me :)

This what I get from /etc/opt/resmon/lbin/monconfig

--------------------------------------------

>/storage/events/disks/default ... OK.
For /storage/events/disks/default/10_0_15_1.6.0:
Events >= 1 (INFORMATION) Goto TEXTLOG; file=/var/opt/resmon/log/event.log
Events >= 3 (MAJOR WARNING) Goto SYSLOG
Events >= 3 (MAJOR WARNING) Goto EMAIL; addr=root
Events = 5 (CRITICAL) Goto TCP; host=uas2.r10.netact.gsm.fv.fi port=60640
--------------------------------------------

This is the device which complains about the SMART option is not enabled. And this is harddrive.

Thanks quys again.

Re: OnlineDiag gives error about "Please be sure that you have enabled SMART for this"

hi mika,

based on the output, it looks like monitoring is enabled.

u may like to search the file, /var/opt/resmon/log/event.log and check what is the cause and action for this event. also, you should also receive this message in your mailbox.

it may just be a warning but if too serious, the info will come in handle for HP support.

regards.

Re: OnlineDiag gives error about "Please be sure that you have enabled SMART for this"

hi mika,

sounds like the disk could be failing possibly. Can you run the stm tests on other disks on system ok?

also check the event.log and syslog.log for any details.

The ems is up and running, but is it patched upto date aswell. you could get errors like this with newer hardware than what is supported with the system.

what is the system, online diags version and patch level?

Re: OnlineDiag gives error about "Please be sure that you have enabled SMART for this"

Hi,

I don't think this information thrown by the EMS monitor is related to any hardware failures or future failure. SMART is used for monitoring and predicting failures in hard disk.

(this used to be case for IDE drives on my intel PCs and there used to be a software installed on Windows which will monitor the disk and predict future failures. And as far as I remember we used the enable the SMART feature from the system BIOS)

But, thats not the case here and can you please tell us what model of disk is 10/0/15/.6.0??

Re: OnlineDiag gives error about "Please be sure that you have enabled SMART for this"

Hi again,

we have the latest patches installed to our UX and also the newest OnlineDiag tool (December 2004)

The disk type is Quantum Atlas 10kii-18lvd.

There is no entries in event.log or syslog.log about hardware failure.

Re: OnlineDiag gives error about "Please be sure that you have enabled SMART for this"

hi,

The next thing to check is the firmware level of the disc?

check there is no updates in the patch depot for your disc. You will need the part number of the disc.

or post it and I can check. some firmware versions caused smart errors and need to be updated.

Hi,

Can you please post the output of diskinfo which will give the exact model number.

Re: OnlineDiag gives error about "Please be sure that you have enabled SMART for this"

Hi Mika,
I think Andrew Rutter has the answer. This message has been seen before on drives that didn't have the latest FW installed. Can you check if a more recent version than HP03 is available for these drives?

Re: OnlineDiag gives error about "Please be sure that you have enabled SMART for this"

Hi Mika,
Did you find the answer to your questions? If so, an update and some points for the useful responses wouldn't go amiss, so that others with the same problem can find the answer in future.

If not, what's the current situation?
