OnlineJFS installation manual for 11.0

Hi all,

Im trying to find an online copy of the OnlineJFS manual for 11.0. Its not on docs.hp.com. Its listed on docs.hp.com but when you select it only the 10.20 version is there, not the 11.0 version.

Do not confuse this with the OnlineJFS 3.3 manaul - we do not have version 3.3, only the older version.

Im after the manual which details which patches to remove, install, in what order etc. just like the 10.20 manual does on docs.hp.com.

yes , there isnt a menual for online jfs , the only menuals are for installing .

Eran, youve not listed the manual I want. youve listed the sys admin tasks manual and another one, not the detailed installation guide fo OJFS including patch info & procedures.

Victor - youve listed the JFS 3.3 manual, this is NOT what im after.

this is the menual to how to install onlinejfs

there isnt any menual for onlinejfs .

all the links that i gave you and the other have rel. issue to online jfs .
you can do a search in this books ( search onlinejfs)

if you want to install onlinejfs just install in with swinstall ( did it a lot )

after that you can do man to fsadm to see the option .

also it is advise to install all the jfs patches if you are planning to install the onlinejfs

i m putting the list of patches for 800 10.20 and 11.00

Thanks for that patch list Eran but its not much use to me as I have a procedural problem. I cannot get OnlineJFS installed and the appropriate patch bundle and still have the kernel build working!

Ive tried
1. Install HP-UX from CD, with ACE May99 bundle, to install OJFS must remove PHKL_18543, install OJFS, reinstall PHKL_18543, cannot rebuild kernel !!

2. Install HP-UX from CD without any patches at all, install OJFS, then install any patch bundle (tried Jun2001, Mar2001, Dec2000), cannot rebuild kernel !!

Does someone have one of those cards listing the exact patch/product install procedure for workstations ? I was hoping the OnlineJFS 11 install manual would be as detailed as the 10.20. OFS install manul which details exactly which patches and apps in what order to get it all working.

Help. Im stuck.

this is my suggest for installing onlinejfs

install the system with the patches

dont remove PHKL_18543 - you shuold never uninstall this patch , you need to reinstall the patch .

here is a nice doc that i wrote to a cu that have the same problem .

tell me if you will have other problem .
the reson that you must reinstall the PHKL_18543 is becuase 2 fileset in this patch .

if you will have an error code about building the kernel please write it to the case .
after installing the online jfs on the system you need to do this :


1. Verify that Online JFS is installed:

swlist -l fileset -a state | grep -i adv

All AdvJournalFS filesets should be configured.

2. Use SAM (System Administration Manager) to verify that the
kernel contains the vxadv driver:

A. Start SAM.
B. Go to Kernel Configuration.
C. Go to Drivers.
D. Check if Current State is IN.

If the Current State is not IN, then mark the vxadv driver
and choose Actions -> Add driver to kernel.

3. If you cannot find the vxadv driver, exit SAM and check
to see that if you are running
[PHKL_18543/PACHRDME/English] :

swlist -l fileset -a state | grep 18543

If the patch is installed, it was probably installed before
the Online JFS product was installed, and you will need to
re-install the patch.





Read the following patch text for more information:

If [PHKL_18543/PACHRDME/English] is installed on a system
that does not have Advanced VxFS, then the Advanced VxFS driver,
'vxadv', will be commented out of the /usr/conf/master.d/vxfs
file in the following manner:

* Disabling AdvJournalFS: vxadv vxadvc 10 100 ...

The following note will be logged in the swagent.log file:

Note: "AdvJournalFS" product is now disabled.
Any vxadv driver in the system file will be ignored.
If you install the 11.00 version of "AdvJournalFS",
you must again install patch
PHKL_18543.

The reinstall* options must be set to false - the default.

If the Advanced VxFS product is subsequently installed,
[PHKL_18543/PACHRDME/English] must be reinstalled
as specified in the note above, otherwise you will get the
following warning when creating a kernel, and the Advanced VxFS
features will not be available:

Warning: No such device, tunable, or cdio vxadv.
Ignoring the following line.
vxadv

Please apply this patch along with command patch
PHCO_13411. Failure to do so, (for example,
applying one without the other) will result in fsck failure,
or even fsck corrupting the filesystem.
