OnlineJFS license - restart?
I want to do this as simply as possible, and would like to simply put the license file into place, and not reboot. I know "vxlicrep" will show the updated license, but I believe I also need to run "vxenablef -e online", or similar command to fully activate the features that had been turned off.
In my testing, I have not been able to demonstrate that is working cleanly. Am I missing any steps?
Thanks.

No reboot is necessary if you follow the guide.

Re: OnlineJFS license - restart?
In testing, I was able to just replace the license file on an "outdated" system, but the online resize feature did not activate until I rebooted the system. On a different test box, "vxenablef" appeared to partially turn on the features, but I still ran into a new error when I tried the resize.
The intent is to push out this fix as simply (but cleanly) as possible.

Re: OnlineJFS license - restart?
There are ways to just to the license file thing, but the only clean and more simple way is to do it from CD. HP was asked about doing like a patch for the license issue for ease of installation for there was a not go, since HP prefered just the eligible customers to have the license to fix the issue.
Regards,
Jaime.

Re: OnlineJFS license - restart?
I have no need or desire to circumvent any security, I just needed an easier way of doing this, and it appears I've got that now.

Re: OnlineJFS license - restart?
JFS - BaseVxFS (VxFS)
Advanced JFS - OnlineJFS
Veritas Volume Manager - VxVM
VxFS is the standard file system (directories and files) for HP-UX. OnlineJFS allows for online resizing a VxFS file system without dismounting the filesystem.
VxVM is like LVM in that it partitions one or more disks. Both VxVM and LVM are available for supported versions of HP-UX.
The "Base VxFS" does not need a separate license and that is included to the price of the basic HP-UX license.
For HP-UX 11.00, the Base VxFS version was 3.1. But we already have a more advanced version which is OnlineJFS 3.3.
In HP-UX 11.11, the version 3.3 became the basic version and still the OnlineJFS need to be purchased separately. The next advanced version of Base VxFS is 3.5 and again the OnlineJFS need to be purchased separately.
When HP-UX 11.23 was released version 3.5 became the new basic version and the new advanced version is 4.1. But in September 2006 HP made the decision to ship all new 11.23 OE media with 4.1 as the basic one. With it, the features of OnlineJFS became a part of the basic package.
xxxx has three HP-UX 11.23 servers listed below with JFS version B.11.23 (which is Base VxFS version 3.5) and OnlineJFS version B.11.23.0512 (0512 stands for December 2005)
OnlineJFS license expiration problem is only with media kit of Jun 2005 or older. Our HP-UX 11.23 hosts wonâ t be affected as we are just on the safe side. Also we had already tested the OnlineJFS function which is working fine as expected.
Vxlicense was the old license reporting tool prior to the version 3.5 and vxlicrep is the new reporting tool. So vxlicrep is the right tool for HP-UX 11.23 servers.
Old Command New Equivalent
Vxlicense -c vxlicinst
Vxlicense -p vxlicrep
Vxlicense -t vxlictest

Re: OnlineJFS license - restart?
you do not need to reboot the server
See this doc to verify
