OnlineJFS licensing: CPU or server ?

We are going to buy OnlineJFS( Product #:B3929CA ), but before that, I'd like to confirm whether the cost of this product is base on the CPU numbers or server numbers, or something else.
Could any one helps me to find out the answer for this ? (better give me the proved message)
Thanks !

The cost is per CPU. I cannot quote you a price, however, as that varies depending on what your VAR charges.

Re: OnlineJFS licensing: CPU or server ?

Hi,

Typically HP prices it's SW on a tier basis.
Tier 1 being workstations & small servers (A-class, etc.) Tier 2 is midrange servers (L & N-class, etc.). And finally Tier 3 is large servers (rp8400 SuperDome).
In other words, the larger the server, the higher the cost.

License is per production CPU, sandboxes generally don't count.

Re: OnlineJFS licensing: CPU or server ?

Price is listed as $1965 but it doesn't say whether that's per cpu or not. I went through a similar experience with VPARs earlier this year. It lists a price but doesn't qualify it. It wasn't until I checked with my reseller that I found out that VPARs was per cpu. It looks like the same could well be true for O/L JFS.

Hi Steven,

How do you know the license is per PRODUCTION CPU only ?
Because I got quite a lot of sandboxes in the environment...
Thanks !

You have to license per server as far as I know - even your dev/qa servers.

Your best way to handle this, is talk to your local HP Account Manager - he would be glad to inform you on pricing for your environment.

Actually, Tony's link gives the answer. I just didn't follow down far enough. It's definitely per cpu. And I've never heard of HP distinguishing between production and sandbox.

In my limited experience, the "no sandboxes" thing is at the VAR's discretion.

Re: OnlineJFS licensing: CPU or server ?

Is there a trial license for OnlineJFS ? or where can I download the trial depot ?
Thanks !

Re: OnlineJFS licensing: CPU or server ?

No trial - but you may be able to get a license key from your HP account rep...on the basis that you just want to test for 30 days - then after that either buy or remove...might be hard to do...in my opinion, online JFS is by far a must have...

One day, hopefully it will be included with all OE's - just like in AIX.
