OnlineJFS question.

Hi,

We have a D250 (32bit OS) with
OnlineJFS 3.1 installed.

I want to update it to
OnlineJFS Advanced.
I already have the license key
from HP.

Can this be done without upgrading OnlineJFS to version
3.3? We want to install the license key without upgrading
OnlineJFS.

10 points to any good answer.
Thank you
Gino

Re: OnlineJFS question.

As far as I know, it won't "upgrade" your current filesystems...but any new filesystems will be created with version 3.3.

From: DocId: UFSKBRC00009741

#fstyp -v /dev/vg00/lvol7
vxfs
version: 3

You can have JFS 3.3 installed and have both version 4 and version 3 filesystems. It depends on what version of JFS was used when the filesystem was created.

Re: OnlineJFS question.

Hi Geoff,

Question, how can any new filesystems be created for version 3.3 if we are only installing the license key for version 3.1? Do we need to use the CD for version 3.3 when we install the license key?

Re: OnlineJFS question.

For just installing a license code (code word), you don't need to install any software. You can add the license code with swinstall. Then whenever you need to install the software, use the CD media.

If you want to update the software, you defenitely need to install the latest one from media after codeword installation.

Re: OnlineJFS question.

You can add the codeword at any time - and it won't affect your current environment - but to make use of JFS 3.3 features you will have to install the software form the cd....

Hope this helps.

Re: OnlineJFS question.

Everyone gets the 3.3 functionality code word or not.

The code word merely enables the install. You can input it with swinstall -i or editing a file.

ITs the onlineJFS functionality you need the codeword for. That I'm sure you know lets you extend filesystems while they are mounted with the fsadm command.

The filesystem functionality does not have to be used but its an enhancement in reliability and performance. Its worth the extra time and as I remember the filesystems get upgraded at install time. Or maybe there is an upgrade process. I'm suddenly fuzzy on that one.

Good luck.

Success
