I just got a new server with a VxFS/OnlineJFS/VxVM 5.0 package CD and licenses.
Having been using VxVM for a long time on Sun Solaris platform, it's my first time to use these packages on HP-UX, and I have some questions.
I successfully installed VxFS & VxVM but not OnlineJFS. Is this OnlineJFS a necessary piece to make VxVM work? How does OnlineJFS play a role with VxFS & VxVM?
Also, if anyone has installed v5.0, is the OnlineJFS codeword only one necessary license to make all those VxFS/OnlineJFS/VxVM work properly? Or, are there VxFS & VxVM license keys that I need to get from HP as well?
Thanks.

SolutionIf you have OnlineJFS then you can extend/shrink your filesystems without taking them offline i.e. unmounting them. It is highly recommended to install it as it makes it a breeze to do filesystem maintenance and defragmentation without outages.
So NO it is not neccessary to install OnlineJFS to make VxVM work however it makes your VxFS sing.
~hope it helps

Re: OnlineJFS/VxFS/VxVM 5.0 installation
Do you know which VxFS/VxVM command to use to install an OnlineJFS codeword?
I tried vxinstall and vxlicinst but neither worked.
Thanks!

Re: OnlineJFS/VxFS/VxVM 5.0 installation
# /sbin/fs/vxfs/vxenablef

Re: OnlineJFS/VxFS/VxVM 5.0 installation
I'm getting the following when I tried running vxenablef:
# /sbin/fs/vxfs/vxenablef -e full
mismatch : command version 35 - kernel version 33
Any advice?
Thanks!

Re: OnlineJFS/VxFS/VxVM 5.0 installation
Okay, there is the Basic and the Advance OnLineJFS
You can always call on HP Support to help with the differences with Basic and Advance OnLineJFS.
The Advance Online would allow you to expand a file-system on the fly..
what licenses did you install ?
type:
# vxlicrep

Re: OnlineJFS/VxFS/VxVM 5.0 installation
I ended up using :
# swinstall -x codeword=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX -s /cdrom
and it prompted me to enter my HP customer ID number... and it accepted, and everything's good now.
Turned out that neither vxlicinst nor vxinstall was the command to add the OnlineJFS codeword key.
Having been familiar with VxFS & VxVM directly from Veritas/Symantec on Sun Solaris platform, I didn't know I had to use swinstall command to add this license.
Thanks.
