OpenVMS Guest Access to Tape Library
I'm doing some testing with OpenVMS guests running on HPVM with the following versions:
# swlist -l product | grep -i hpvm
AVIO-GVSD B.11.31.1003 HPVM Guest AVIO Storage Software
AVIO-HSSN B.11.31.1003.01 HPVM Host AVIO LAN Software
AVIO-HVSD B.11.31.1003.01 HPVM Host AVIO Storage Software
AVIO-IGSSN B.11.31.1003 HPVM Guest AVIO LAN Software
HPVM B.04.20 Integrity VM HPVM
PHKL_40273 1.0 TLB,MCA Recovery,HPVM,NUMA,P-State,IPMI
PHKL_40390 1.0 HPVM Fix RID length, plus 1 pre-enableme
PHSS_40876 1.0 HPVM B.04.20 VMAGENT
PHSS_40901 1.0 HPVM B.04.20 VMMIGRATE PATCH
PHSS_41247 1.0 HPVM B.04.20 CORE PATCH
What I would like to do is access the following MSL 5000 tape library from the OpenVMS virtual machine.
# ioscan -kfnC tape
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
==================================================================
tape 0 0/4/1/0.239.9.255.0.0.1 stape CLAIMED DEVICE COMPAQ 0
/dev/rmt/0m /dev/rmt/c6t0d1BEST
/dev/rmt/0mb /dev/rmt/c6t0d1BESTb
/dev/rmt/0mn /dev/rmt/c6t0d1BESTn
/dev/rmt/0mnb /dev/rmt/c6t0d1BESTnb
tape 1 0/4/1/0.239.9.255.0.0.2 stape CLAIMED DEVICE COMPAQ 0
/dev/rmt/1m /dev/rmt/c6t0d2BEST
/dev/rmt/1mb /dev/rmt/c6t0d2BESTb
/dev/rmt/1mn /dev/rmt/c6t0d2BESTn
/dev/rmt/1mnb /dev/rmt/c6t0d2BESTnb
When I try to add a new I/O Device in Virtual Machines Manager, the tape drives and robot appear in the list of available devices under Emulated SCSI but when I change that to AVIO Storge they disappear from the list. If I add them using Emulated SCSI, the VM doesn't start because it says OpenVMS guests must use AVIO.
Is there anyway to present the library to the VM? If not does anybody know if this is a feature that is slated to be released in the future?

OpenVMS guest does not support attached devices such as tape devices, CD/DVD burners and media changers. If you want to use tape devices, you can connect them to a physical system that is in a cluster with OpenVMS guest and TMSCP serves the tape devices.

Bhadresh
