oracel 10g (9.0.4) on Itanium 11.23 server

Hello All,

We recently purchased an rx4640 with HP-UX 11.23. We need to install the 9.0.4 (10g) version of oracle on it. We can only find on oracle's certification track for 9.0.4 on 11.23 for PA-RISC. Will the PA-RISC version of 10g install and function on the IA-64 system? I would assume that as long as the OS and width meet the criteria it shouldn't matter if the hardware is RISC or Itanium.

Am I correct in this assumption? We are currently waiting clarification from oracle on this as well.

Just heard from HP on this. They say that yes, that the itanium can emulate the pa-risc applications, however there will be a 10:1 speed difference in doing so.

Any conflicting info?

Interesting. HP says it will work.

They didn't say Oracle support would help you if there is an issue.

The install program for 10g is very picky about kernel parameters and it checks the OS version. You may have a problem here.

Do prepare for the install, but I recommend against promising management any deadlines.

That was just the short answer. The long answer is that even though that the IA-64 11.23 can emulate the PA-RISC coding that there are trade off's such as the performance. However they do prefer for performance and for the best overall experience to get the code compiled for that system.

Aries will handles "well behaved" binaries that are not kernel invasive. I would be very surprise to learn that Oracle for pa-risc would run on Itanium. The good new is that the binaries exist for 10g for Oracle on Itanium.

Yes we see the database is certified. But we are concerned about the application server piece.
