Oracle 8.1.6 to 8.1.7 database migration

Hello,

I'm planning to migrate a whole database (very large) from oracle 8.1.6 to oracle 8.1.7.
Is there a best way to operate than dumping the database under 8.1.6, then import the dump after installing the 8.1.7.

Hi

As this is no migration, just a upgrade;
-Stop the database and do a backup.
-Install 8.1.7 in a new ORACLE_HOME
-start the database from the new ORACLE_HOME
-Run the update script supplied in $OH/rdbms/admin:
u0801070.SQL

And run:
-catalog.sql
-catproc.sql
-UTLRP.sql

.. the script name is ofcourse
u0801060.SQL

The *70.sql script is for transition to 8.1.7.x patches.

just run the scripts.

Hi,
Because no change required for data in 816 and 817 environment, therefore you only have to install the new software and create the system's packages and objects.
