Oracle 8.1.7 SE and HP-UX 11.0

We need to know whether the Oracle 8.1.7 standard edition (32 bit) software can run and perform properly on an HP-UX 11.0 O/S (64 bit)?
I would appreciate any and all responses.

Hi,

I do not know Oracle very well, but if
the question is if a 32-bit software may
execute on a 64-bit hp-ux, the answer is
yes.
As far as I know both 23-bit and 64-bit
Oracle is available for hp-ux 11.00

Yes it will work without any problem. The only problem it will face that It has to work with 1.75GB of max shared memory or memory windows if the SGA size is real big.

If it is a new implementation I would suggest for Oracle 64 bit. Because later on it will be too tough to convert.

Hi

The 32 bit Oracle software will run just fine, and for small databases (small SGA's you're quite safe to use this. But as Sandip states; if this is in its planning state yet, go for the 64 bit and save yourself for trouble later on...

As you know by now Oracle 32 bit will run on HP-UX 11.0 64bit. You also know the memory restrictions.

If you keep Oracle @ 32Bit you probably will only be able to run one database instance if it has any size at all.

Hi Jack

We have the same combination working properly ,'ie HPUX 11.00 64 BIT and Oracle 32 bit , but why dont you use the 64 BIT version of ORACLE in case you have the binaries compatible .
