Oracle ias report server intermittant error.
ias 1.0.2.2 PL 12, very clean installation.
We have two database instances functioning normally.
We have two instances of forms server functioning normally.
We have two report instances that function, almost normally.
We've developed some pl/sql code to run batch reports.
For reports instance #1 it always works if tehre is a report request on the database.
For reports instance #2 it works the first time and the second time you trigger it, you get the following error:
Terminated with Error :
REP-1401: 'beforepform': Fatal PL/SQL error occurred.
ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called
To get things going again you either have to bounce the reports server or kill the process associated with reports. That same process can stay up with no adverse affect on reports instance #1.
Here is what we tried:
tar at metalink - they are wasting our time
search at metalink - maybe you can search better
changing the start order of the two reports servers.
We are considering attaching a tusc process trace to the reports server. The difference in the configuration files for the servers has been checked and the only difference is the instance name.
WE do not believe there are any issues with tnsnames, the listener and the installation is all on one server so the network probably isn't an issue.
What do you think?
If you've encountered this and post a detailed solution, thats an easy bunny.

Re: Oracle ias report server intermittant error.
We are working on this document. I'll hold off on the points until our dba lets me know if its relavent.
The error code matches, but the symptom does not.

Re: Oracle ias report server intermittant error.
You get one good run on a report. The next run generates the error until you kill the report thread. This behavior is consistent, but not duplicated on the FIRST reports instance.

Re: Oracle ias report server intermittant error.
Also, what software are you attaching the report server to (VNC, X-windows, etc). You might want to verify that this is working normally.
Thanks,
Brian

Re: Oracle ias report server intermittant error.
All of this is happening on the server. The only traffic on the network is back and forth to the web browser. The first reports instance works great no matter how many times you run the report.

Re: Oracle ias report server intermittant error.
we are unfortunately running our ias 1.0.2.2 with patch set 11 + patch for BUG2662443.
working fine except a few intermittent:
---
Terminated with Error :
REP-1811: Error while generating a chart.
---
errors when running reports with embeded graphics objects.
I am currently testing patchset 13. See to be working fine. Can you give this one a try?
I would suggest that you configure your "Reports Server Queue PL/SQL Table" and identify when the errors are occuring.
sorry that i can't be of much help!
best regards

Re: Oracle ias report server intermittant error.
Regards,
We are frozen at Patch 12 until I get two rp5450 servers into production.
We will continue to try, but may have to delay a feature rollout until we have the chance to test patch upgrades.

Re: Oracle ias report server intermittant error.
There was an error in the REPORTS_PATH variable in the startup script.
I mentioned that at a meeting yesterday but was told it was checked. I guess it was checked again.
Thanks.

Re: Oracle ias report server intermittant error.
I found some hints that may help you. If not.... well, I tryed !
ORA-6508 can be caused by the following :
1. If you are using the older version of d2kwutil, you may get this error, please use the latest version. (NOT RELATED TO YOU, WAS FROM A WINDOW VERSION)
2. If one has upgraded to a higher version of forms, having attached libraries that have not been compiled. But since you have already done that, this may not be the problem, but try compiling the libraries from the command line and not from Forms Designer. (MAY BE RECOMPILING FROM PL/SQL CAN HELP ALSO IN TOYUR CASE) Have a check immediatly after the error: see if the package become invalid. This may be an help i tracking down te problem.
3. This may also occur on heavily loaded machines
4. Please ensure you have all the forms and the libraries are in the correct path (ORACLE_PATH and FORMS60_PATH), sometimes it must be taking the older version of the pll's.
5. I suggest that you try to re-attach the library in any form, and check whether you continue to get this error.
Also: is there any user-exit like a "flush shared pool" or a call to recompile sql object, or a call to reorganize index?
If objects underlying a pl/sql procedure become invalid, they invalidate the upper procedure...
HTH,
Massimo
