OS and system file growth
How can I measure the HPUX e.g 11.23 system file growth? This to plan my backup strategy.

Re: OS and system file growth
Did you check using bdf [mount point name] command or du -sk [folder name] command.

Re: OS and system file growth
What is the filesystem growth in Unix? Is it 1GB/year?
Not include the db if db was installed in the server or any other application.
So far from the bdf output from 2005 till now, I can see that /stand, /var, /opt and /arch will grow. and the total grow is around 3.3Gb

Re: OS and system file growth
/stand, /var, /opt : This file systems will experience only minor growth and should not be your area of attention.
Suppose the /arch is used to hold Oracle Archived log files, this is expected to grow as your voulume of activity grows on your system. This file system will be dynamic in nature.
Here again, depending on your backup strategy, this might not be a real issue if you can manage it properly. But still, i would not keep these files on slow disk or disk area that are not scalable.
If you have any historical information on the disk usage, it would be easier to predict the future requirements. Dont forget that you should also consider the changes anticipate in the business activities as well.
hope this helps!
kind regards
