OS Backup
we got one LTO2 tape , we dont know in which format they have taken the OS bakup. but we are able to see the contents by tar. so the question is
1. can i restore the OS Backup using tar format.
2. from which runlevel i have to issue the cmd.

If this was taken using make_tape_recovery, you need to boot with this tape and can install the OS from the tape.

no, stop the server from booting at PDC level.
Do a search for bootable devices
type sea at main prompt
This should pick the tape up depending upon server and tape,(if its supported). Then if its a bootable tape select the P0, P1 coresponding device to boot.
This will reinstall the OS
you would be better listing the tape files really and seeing what exactly the backup covers though aswell

If the tape has taken with make_tape_recovery backup , i.e Ignite backup , you can certainly restore the OS .
You have to boot from this tape.
To do this:
1. Interupt boot sequence.
2. use search at PDC.
3. Locate your tape drive device .( P0,P1,P2 etc.)
4. boot Pn
