OS kernel parameter tuning - Auto?
Hi.
I've changed many kernel parms. in the past.
As far as I remember, their "capability" was either "static" or "dynamic".
I'm looking at a newer server we have here, an HP rx8640, running HP-UX 11.23.
One of the parameters that I may want to increase is "physical_io_buffers". It's state is "Auto", and, try as I might on ITRC, I cannot see what precisly that means!
I know that static means reboot required to change, dynamic not... What the heck does "Auto" mean?
- Thanks in advance.

Re: OS kernel parameter tuning - Auto?
Hi Steve:
For kernel modules "auto" means the kernel loads the module when it is called for. For tunable parameters, "auto" means that the system can dynamically adjust it's value.
Regards!
