Out of memory errors from oracle

Good afternoon fellow admins,

Running five oracle apps instances on a 11.0 rp5470 server with 12 gigs of memory. We are continually getting out of memory error messages from processes run by users. We can't shut down the instances. I was thinking of increasing shmmax which is currently a little over 1gig. I have changed maxtsiz and maxdsiz, this did not correct the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions on the shmmax size or other paramters that should be changed. Thankyou for your help!

Re: Out of memory errors from oracle

Hi,

I suggest you to contact Oracle and ask them about the correct value for shmmax based on the size of your Instances. Besides that, I think it's worthwhile to verify how is the usage of swap of your system using "swapinfo -tam" command. As long as you have 12 GB of memory "maybe" it could be a good idea have the swapmemon activated on kernel.

Re: Out of memory errors from oracle

If you are running a 32bit version of Oracle you may need to use memory windows.
