Owner:Group for TZupdater files on HP-UX
I recently ran the TZupdater script on our production and training servers. It looks like it installed ok because I noticed that there is now a new ZI directory and an archived ZI directory:
…/opt/java1.4/jre/lib
drwxr-xr-x 13 root sys 1024 Feb 21 19:57 zi
dr-xr-xr-x 12 bin bin 1024 Aug 6 2005 zi.tzdata2002c
My question is should the new directory and files be under bin:bin(owner:group)since the old directory and files were under bin:bin?
The newly created folder is under root:sys since I ran the TZupdater as root.

Re: Owner:Group for TZupdater files on HP-UX
Hi John,
You are correct, this is a known issue. But I would wait for a maintenance window (apps down) before I would chown this directory.
--
Known Issues
The jre/lib/zi directory will inherit the permissions from the process running the update.
For example, in a typical installation, the JDK directory /opt/java1.4/jre/lib/zi could be set with owner and group permissions of 'bin':
dr-xr-xr-x 12 bin bin 8192 Apr 14 2006 /opt/java1.4/jre/lib/zi/
After running the tzupdater tool as root, the new permissions will be (inheriting the umask of the process running the tool):
drw-xr-xr-x 12 root sys 8192 Feb 09 2007 /opt/java1.4/jre/lib/zi/
--

Hope this helps,
Robert-Jan

Re: Owner:Group for TZupdater files on HP-UX
Thanks, I did miss that portion of the readme.
