hello all! I'm currently developing an application that's using pam and one of the platforms that it should run on is hpux 10.20. i've looked through the internet and I think hpux10.20 doesnt support pam. but I was amazed to find out that there was a pam library (libpam.*) built in but no pam_appl.h. (?) just want to know for sure whether or not pam is supported or not for hpux 10.20. heard you need to use linux pam? thanks for the help!

Re: pam and hpux10.20
Melissa,
You are correct. PAM is not supported until 10.30 or beyond. Keep in mind as well that 10.20 itself will be out of support at the end of this June.
Hope this helps,
Eric

Solution
I promise you that PAM is not generally supported on 10.20 and is highly unlikely to ever be. (The project lead for HP-UX PAM used to sit 10 feet from my cube, so I say that with some authority.) PAM support existed in very limited fashion in 10.20. The lack of the pam* include files is a hint that you shouldn't be trying to use it on 10.20. :-) As I recall, only CDE used PAM in 10.20. It wasn't until 10.30 (which very few customers got, so it's really 11.00 to most of you) that PAM support started to propagate through the rest of the system.
As for linux pam, that really won't help you much on 10.20. Even if you port the libraries, the programs that do authentication (login, ftp, su, passwd, etc.) won't call them. Replacing those with Linux-based versions would create other problems.
Unfortunately, there really isn't a good solution for 10.20 users with respect to PAM.
As previously noted, HP has announced that 10.20 support ends at the end of June.
