panic: LVM: Configuration failure
I moved a set of disc drives from an HP9000 750/80 to a D180L workstation, made necessary changes for primary boot path and tried to boot the system. Received the following message:
LVM : Activation of root volume group failed specified path.
Either no physical volumes are attached or no valid VGDAs were found on the physical volumes
What info is stored in the LVM table that relates to the system on which the logical volumes were created? How can I get the new system to read the LVM table correctly?
Thanks in advance for any help in resolving this problem without reinstalling hpux.

Re: panic: LVM: Configuration failure
Tony,
(I assume you meant B180L)
If the disks you moved from the 750 to the B180L are the root VG and you are trying to boot from them, you may not be successful. This is because the kernel built on the 750 may not have some drivers needed by the B180.
If you need to get data from these disks, you'll probably need to boot a kernel built for the B180 and import the disks from the 750.
Please reply and tell us what disks you're trying to use, how they're connected and whether you're trying to boot from them. (I like to know if I've got an accurate picture of what you're trying to do.)
Regards,
Dave

Re: panic: LVM: Configuration failure
Well as these systems are completely dfferent architecture, and I/O layout, I am not surprised that you have problems.
You may eventually get something to work, but I have my doubts.
Your best suggestion is to look at the io layout on both systems and compare, and also look at the various drivers needed.

Re: panic: LVM: Configuration failure
Thanks for all responses to my question!
Sorry for typo on the workstation type. The workstation was a B180L with:
OS - hpux11.0
1 Internal 800 MByte disc
2 External 4 GByte discs connected to SE SCSI interface.
I am in the process of installing the core OS on the B180L and then recover whatever files I can from the backup tape created on the 750/80 workstation
