panic: VFS_MOUNTROOTs failed

a J5000 is being ignited, and it stopped at the step "Boot from client disk" for a long time. Went to the console, it's in a panic/reboot cycle with the following message,

vxvm_root: Warning: vxio driver not loaded
Swap device table: (start & size given in 512-byte blocks)
entry 0 - auto-configured on root device; ignored - device is in use by
VxVM
WARNING: no swap device configured, so dump cannot be defaulted to primary swap.

panic: all VFS_MOUNTROOTs failed: NEED DRIVERS ?????

How come this vxio is not loaded? The same Ignite procedure was used previously on a different machine, and no such problem.

Re: panic: VFS_MOUNTROOTs failed

Could there be a configuration difference between the two machines?

It would appear that there is a disk configuration problem either on the Ignite configuration side or a disk expected to be there simply isn't present.

Re: panic: VFS_MOUNTROOTs failed

Could be a missing driver / different machine requirements problem.

Could also just be a network problem, maybe some data was lost.

I would try again to see if the probem is repeatable.

Re: panic: VFS_MOUNTROOTs failed

The working machine is an E35 (old server). The current problematic one is a J5000 (relatively new workstation).
Last time (panic occurred) the installation is a push, now I'm doing the pull from J5000.
Does VxVM has any issues for particular hardware? I know its rootability was introduced only not very long ago.

Re: panic: VFS_MOUNTROOTs failed

The pull from J5000 got the same problem, and exactly the same message.
Can one convert lvm to vxvm on a running system? Next step I'm gona install choosing lvm and then try to convert to vxvm from there.

Re: panic: VFS_MOUNTROOTs failed

What version of VXVM is being used and what version of the OS ?

Also, what version of Ignite are you using on each box ?

Re: panic: VFS_MOUNTROOTs failed

vxvm 3.5, OS 11.11. Servier is running Ignite 5.3.35.
I tried to reverse to using LVM instead of VxVM, the install succeeded.

Re: panic: VFS_MOUNTROOTs failed

I'm sorry. The Base-VXVM is not in the depot for the J5000 install, but it is in the depot for the E35 installation.
Hope I didn't waste you too much time.

Have a great week end!
