parstatus absent cpu

Hi,

Just a quick query, I have an 8420 and when I run parstatus -c, I see some cpu's are absent. Does this mean the cell board is empty of cpu's or the cpu's are just not configured?

Thanks
Michael

Re: parstatus absent cpu

Shalom Michael,

It could mean that the vpar is not configured properly.

It could also mean that one or more CPU's has failed from the hardware standpoint. You probably would have noticed this since this generates a High Priority Machine Check and crashes the system.

You should be able to use cstm to check out the CPU configuration of the cell boards and answer your question.

Re: parstatus absent cpu

As parstatus is used for Npars or hard partitions, the -c or -C options are used to display cell information.
If it is saying there are no cpu's there then either they are not installed, or if they were they have possibly failed.

You could use the STM utilities to have a look
Also, if you log on to the MP on the server and use teh CM menu, you could have a look there and use a few commands to see what that gives

Re: parstatus absent cpu

you can use parstatus -A to see if there are any unconfigured CPU's or memory or IO slots.
