password expiration

I am using unix 11i and i am trying to figure out what file is being read in order for the message that your password is going to expire. I would also like to know is that file able to be edited.
just when you thought you had the answer

Password aging can be set at user creation and is check at login. Message modification is not easy. See http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1078019

Shalom,

Parse the output from passwd -sa for the user and make an echo statement based on that data. Its in date format.

You can do it in /etc/profile
