Password length setting in 10.20b

Hi guys,

From the past poseted items I was able to know that patch PHCO_20334 is needed for me to set the password length of my system. But I am currently using HPUX10.20b, is there a patch for this? And Can I use passwd command to do this alone?

Thank u.

Best regards
Henry

Re: Password length setting in 10.20b

Hope you have to convert your system to trusted one to set password length setting. See man passwd page for SECURITY FEATURES part.

Hi Henry,

Refer to the doc attached on converting your system to trusted one.

Hope that helps.

Re: Password length setting in 10.20b

The password controls implemented in 10.20 are very limited, which is one large reason my IT Security department was very happy when we upgraded to 11.x. This is one of the issues we had, the password subsystem provided with 10.20 does not allow the level of restrictions that is considered mandatory on today's systems. There were, a few years back, a couple of possible solutions, including installing a replacement password program. A quick look at the Software and Porting archive provides: http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Sysadmin/npasswd-1.2.4/ . Note, this is dated 24Aug2000 and I have never tried to install it, so I have no opinions as to it's quality.

The /etc/default/security solution was implemented at 11.o, so it will not work for you.

If at all possible, upgrqade the OS to 11i. Since 10.20 is long out of support, it is a good idea.
What is it that possesses otherwise sane individuals to change something just because it has not been changed in a while?
