password string restriction??

We have HP11 machines setup, one user on the machine try to change his password to lup#%US. After change it, it couldn't be used to login. I tried to use this password for other users, it doesn't work either. What's wrong with this string? Can somebody explain?

Thanks
Tong

Re: password string restriction??

Hi Tong:

The characters #, @, /, !, _, backspace, ^U, ^D, or & have special meaning to the 'getty' login process and therefore cannot be used. see the man pages for 'getty(1M)' form more information.

Regards!

Re: password string restriction??

Tong,

Try to enter the password as "lup\#%US" without quotes. Note that there is a \ right in front of #. You should be able to login.
