swinstall -x autoreboot=true -x patch_match_target=true -s /tmp/patches/PHSS_27411.depot
And this is what I get:
======= 07/25/02 09:35:07 EDT BEGIN swinstall SESSION
(non-interactive)
* Session started for user "root@mrsrv".
* Beginning Selection
* Target connection succeeded for "mrsrv:/".
* "mrsrv:/tmp/patches/PHSS_27411.depot": This source is a tape
device.
* "mrsrv:/tmp/patches/PHSS_27411.depot": Cannot open the
logfile on this target or source. Possibly the media is
read-only or there is a permission problem. Check the daemon
logfile and "/var/tmp/swagent.log" on this host for more
information.
NOTE: The patch match operation failed to find patches for target
software on "mrsrv" which passed the filter.
NOTE: Cannot continue the "swinstall" task.
Any idea why? Thank you.

SolutionThe patch didnt pass the filter which means it could be any of;
-This patch is not for this server os/type.
-This patch is alrady superceeded.
-This patch applies to a product not installed.
For more information take a look at the /var/adm/sw/swagent.log (at the bottom of this log) and it should explain in more detail why it didnt pass the filter.

Re: patch installation error
Try using the command line without -x patch_match_target_option
swinstall -x autoreboot=true -s /tmp/patches/PHSS_27411.depot PHSS_27411

Re: patch installation error
for some weird reasons I have seen this error after the swagentd had a "hickup".
It would be worth a try to restart the swagentd with
/usr/sbin/swagentd -r
and start over.

Re: patch installation error
Olga, That is correct. If the base fileset is missing, then you won't be able to apply the patch, simply because it is not needed. This is good because unnecessary patches would waste system resources.
Take Care,
Cheryl
