Patch Installation Problem

Wondering if anyone has an idea about this. It was requested by my Oracle DBA to load a specific patch, PHCO_28425, onto an 11i system. When I brought up this patch and all of it's dependent patshes it reverted to 11.0. I downloaded the patches and created one bundle, consisting of 11 patches. When I go to install the system will not accept the depot because of the version of the O/S being 11i. I haven't been able to find anything reffering to this. Sorry for the lengthy question, any ideas! Thank you in advance.

You can't, and don't want to try, loading an 11.0 patch onto an 11i system, especially a libc patch. I can't find an equivalent 11i patch so I suspect that the fixes were rolled into the 11i release.

With application software, say from the porting center, 11.00 software will USUALLY isntall properly on a 11.11(11i) box.

Not so with patches. They are specific and if you find some way to trick the system into installing an 11.00 patch on an 11.11 system the result possbilities range from bad to catastrophic.

the patch database link on the main http://itrc.hp.com page will let you find the patches you need for your system. It is searchable by name.

Check the latest libc patch for 11.11 and look if you can find if your problem is solved in this patch.

The 11.11 libc cumulative patch is PHCO_29495.

Note that there are also a number of other libc patches for 11.11. Go to the patch DB here:

Make sure you have 11.11 selected for the OS version and search put 'libc' as the search string. You'll see a bunch of stuff.

Just Don't try installing 11.0 patch on 11.11 server without consulting HP. IT could be catastophic. You may loose you present kernel.

Thank you for some reason I couldn't find this patch. This patch and it's dependency fixed our problem!
