Patching HP-UX

Hello,

I found out that with the SAM in HP-UX 11 machine will go out and look for the patches that need to be updated on the system. I think the name is something like "quality pack". I have been looking all over the SAM, but I could not finde anything that will so something like that.
Does anybody know anything about it?

I'm unaware of any such feature in SAM, but you can download the Quality Pack patch bundles from software.hp.com.

What would be the benefit over the custom pack manager.
Should I use this metod from now on ?

Re: Patching HP-UX

Lots of people swear by the Custom Patch Manager. The one time I tried it, it came up with so many patches for me to apply that I chickened out. I don't like that much change all at once so I use the Quality Packs on a periodic basis instead. They're test together and, in my opinion, safer.

Personal preference, I guess.

Re: Patching HP-UX

The custom patch manager allows you to get patches in a more timely manner. It also rates the patch based on stability (1=new, relatively untested to 3=been around a while, extensively used and tested).

The CPM keeps me up to date so when I call for support I don't get "install patch PHxx_nnnnn and call me back if you still have problems"
