Patching question

I have the following patch bundles installed on my RP4410:-

GOLDAPPS11i B.11.11.0606.446 Applications Patches for HP-UX 11i v1, June 2006
GOLDBASE11i B.11.11.0606.446 Base Patches for HP-UX 11i v1, June 2006

One of my users has requested that I downgrade these patchsets to an earlier revison, I believe this is a bad idea am I correct?

Re: Patching question

Yes,

This is a bad idea. Your user has no business making suggestions like this.

If your user has a specific issue, perhaps the June 2007 patch set will resolve them or a specific addtional patch.

Downgrade is not recommended and normally nearly impossible to pull off.

Re: Patching question

I woud find out the reason why he wants to downgrade the patch version !!

Eventhough you can go back to your pre patch status with an ignite backup ( which was taken prior to the patch installation) , I would try to work with the user to find out / resolve his problem with this version rather than downgrading it !!

Nyck,

You can do so, but it is better we investigate why the newer version of patch bundles not working properly? what kind of production impact with this newer patch bundle.

my 2 cents

Re: Patching question

You have users asking you to install or un-install patches??

I have to think this is a very bad idea. The idea behind these periodic Quality Pack bundles is: one, that they're cumulative; two, that they have been thoroughly tested, together; three, that they are safe to install.

Just the thought of uninstalling all of those patches gives me pause. That is why it's recommended to backup your system before patching - so you can restore rather than un-install.

I would say, unless they have a very compelling reason, no, you should not downgrade.

Re: Patching question

Thanks for all the excellent responses!

I had already told the user that this would not be done and I just wanted to seek some advice from other HP users just in case I need some ammo.

The reason why they wanted to do this was to replicate a customer issue.

Thanks again!
