PB FTP HP-UX -> HP-UX

Hi,
I have a problem to transfert with ftp a ascii file between 2 servers HP-UX OS. I loose one char. (diff file1 file2)
Between HP-UX -> AIX OK and HP-UX --> SUN OK
ftpis in the ascii mode.
Have you got a solution ?
Thanks very much for your help.

Re: PB FTP HP-UX -> HP-UX

Have you tried with ftp in binary mode. It's possible that your file isn't as ascii as it seems.

Other than that can you tell us which character you lose.

can't get the root cause. I would try rcp if that is an ascii file

Re: PB FTP HP-UX -> HP-UX

Hi,
no because, it's in relation with a software as use only the ascii ftp mode.So I must use the ascii mode. When I do the tranfert manualy HP-UX to HP-UX it's same probleme.
Architecture :
Mainframe (1) -->ebcdic file / convert in ascii file(2) ---> HP-UX (3)--ftp mode ascii(4) ---> HP-UX(5).
pb is in phase 4.

Re: PB FTP HP-UX -> HP-UX

Well, considering the vast majority of ascii transfers that happen on HPUX do not lose characters, I still think we need to eliminate any non ascii characters in your file.

You have done a "diff" on the two files, what was the result?

Have you tried changing the EOF character for the shell doing the ftp receiving and the one doing the sending?

The file F0000051.sav is the good file and the file F0000051 is the same file tranfered who loose one char.

Re: PB FTP HP-UX -> HP-UX

hai,

You are using ftp with ascii mode on unix as well as non-unix mode. There is a problem on using ascii mode between non-unix and unix as

====== man ftp ===
When cr is on (the default), carriage returns are stripped from this sequence to conform with the UNIX single line-feed record delimiter. Records on non-UNIX remote systems may contain single line-feeds; when an ascii type transfer is made, these line-feeds can be distinguished from a record delimiter only when cr is off.

Regards,
Muthukumar.

Easy to suggest when don't know about the problem!

Re: PB FTP HP-UX -> HP-UX

Gerald, perhaps a "cat -v" on your diff file wil show something up.
